Meet claudine whealing: Yoga Teacher at This Is Yoga

What was your inspiration for becoming a yoga teacher?

Yoga caught me off-guard. I didn’t expect it to be this good. The practice of showing up each day to practice, to tune in, to breathe and move, has been transformational for me. A key part of the transformation is connecting to community, sharing space and breath with the people around you. Whether or not to teach didn’t feel like a question, it felt like the clear path. Yoga is too good not to share.

Your favourite yoga pose if you have one?

My favourite pose is ardha chandrasana (half moon). It’s an opportunity to both ground down to the earth, embracing the single-minded presence of balance, and expand and open to the sky, fingertips reaching up. Grounding and expansion perfectly balanced, what a two-for-one deal!

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

Sometimes at the end of class, someone will come up to me and say they were having a bad day, but they’re walking out of yoga feeling much better than how they walked in. Helping someone turn their day around, now that’s a privilege. How good.
