Foundations of Yoga Series

A free three-part workshop series with Amanda Borosak at Randwick.

What it is

Yoga is so much more than shapes on a mat. It is a practice of understanding ourselves wholeheartedly, our bodies, our breath, our minds, and the way we move through the world.

The Foundations of Yoga Series has been created for anyone curious to explore the practice more deeply. Whether you're completely new to yoga or have been practising for years, these three workshops return to the foundations that are often overlooked in a regular class setting.

Together, we’ll explore the purpose behind the practice, developing a deeper understanding of breath, movement, anatomy, alignment, and philosophy. You’ll learn how to move safely and with confidence, when and why to use props, and how yoga can support you both on and off the mat.

This series is designed to answer not only how we practise yoga, but why.

Who it is for

This series is open to both TIY members and non-members, and is suitable for:

  • complete beginners who want a welcoming entry point into yoga

  • students who already attend classes and want more context around the practice

  • anyone curious about breath, anatomy, movement, and alignment

  • practitioners who want to understand the deeper layers of yoga beyond the physical postures

If you’ve been curious about yoga but haven’t stepped into a class yet, this series is for you. If you’ve been practising for years and want to revisit the foundations with fresh understanding, this is for you too.

Workshop breakdown

Workshop 1: Yoga origins, why we breathe, and anatomy
Sunday 26 July 2026 | 11:00 am to 1:00 pm | Randwick

This first workshop explores the origins of yoga, the role of breath and pranayama in practice, and the basics of anatomy in yoga. Together, we’ll look at why we practise, how yoga has evolved, and how breath supports the way we move.

Areas of focus:

  • what yoga is and why we practise

  • the role of breath and pranayama

  • basic skeletal and muscular awareness in yoga

  • commonly used cues in class

Workshop 2: Stability, strength, props, and progression
Sunday 23 August 2026 | 11:00 am to 1:00 pm | Randwick

This workshop looks at how we build strength and stability in yoga in a way that supports the body rather than pushing past it. We’ll also explore how props can be used safely and effectively, and how to understand progression in practice.

Areas of focus:

  • strength and stability in yoga

  • moving without dumping into the joints

  • using blocks, straps, the wall, bolsters, and blankets

  • understanding when to build and when to pull back

Workshop 3: Moving beyond the physical practice
Sunday 27 September 2026 | 11:00 am to 1:00 pm | Randwick

The final workshop explores the subtler layers of yoga, including prana, yin and yang energy, and reflective practices such as meditation and nidra. It’s an invitation to look beyond the physical shapes and deepen your understanding of yoga as a whole practice.

Areas of focus:

  • prana and why it matters in yoga

  • yin and yang energy in practice

  • the subtle body

  • meditation, nidra, and inward-focused practices

What to wear and bring

Wear non-restrictive clothing you can move in. All props are provided, unless you’d prefer to bring your own yoga mat. A journal and pen are encouraged for any thoughts or reflections that arise during the session.

About Amanda

Amanda has been teaching yoga for almost a decade, with a deep passion for making the practice feel accessible, empowering, and relevant to everyday life. She believes yoga is about far more than physical postures. It is a lifelong practice of self-awareness, curiosity, and connection.

Known for her thoughtful, down-to-earth teaching style, Amanda loves helping students build confidence from the ground up. By blending intelligent movement, breathwork, philosophy, and anatomy, she creates a space where students can better understand not only how to practise yoga safely, but why each element of the practice matters.

The Foundations of Yoga Series reflects Amanda’s approach to teaching: slowing down, asking questions, building strong foundations, and exploring yoga as a practice that extends well beyond the mat.
